Undergraduate education
There are three undergraduate programs including Measurement and control technology and instruments, Optical Information Science and Engineering and Electronic Science and Technology. Details as follows:
Measurement and control technology and instruments program aimed at the regional economy, this major cultivates solid basic knowledge of mathematics and engineering, strong engineering practice ability, innovative spirit and socialist core values, and can be engaged in the design, development, production and manufacturing of photoelectric instruments in relevant fields such as photoelectric instruments, optical testing, measurement and control Applied senior professionals in applied research and operation management.
Optical Information Science and Engineering program is designed to cultivate students who will become the senior specialized talents with innovative spirit and engineering practice ability and can be prepared for any professional role: photoelectric instrument design, research development, manufacturing, application and working administration engaged in photoelectric instrument, optical testing, measurement and control, etc. in various national economy fields.
Electronic Science and Technology program is designed to meet urgent demand of the development, innovation and transcendence of optoelectronic industry in national defense and regional economy, this specialty brings up application-oriented advanced professionals with international perspective, patriotism, and good professional accomplishment. The graduate can work in design, development, manufacture, testing, application, and management on optoelectronic devices and systems.
Graduate Education
The School has a first-level doctoral degree authorization in optical engineering and a postdoctoral research mobile station, two first-level master's degree authorization disciplines (optical engineering, instrumentation science and technology), and one professional master's degree authorization category (electronic information). Among them, the optical engineering discipline is a provincial key discipline. In 2014, the optical engineering discipline was approved as a project of advantageous disciplines in ordinary colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province. In 2014, it was approved as a demonstration workstation for joint training of postgraduates in Shaanxi Province. In 2017, it passed the special evaluation of the doctoral degree authorization point of the optical engineering discipline with excellent resultsand selected as a "double first-class university" discipline in the province. It ranks in the top 20% of the "2022 Soft Science Chinese Best Disciplines Rankings" discipline rankings.
The School has one national-level technology cooperation bases and one Key Laboratories of the Ministry of Education, as well as 14 provincial and ministerial-level Key Laboratories. Its disciplinary strengths and characteristics are more prominent. The school closely follows the forefront of disciplinary development, consolidates a number of scientific research and technological development achievements, forms distinctive research directions, and has achieved many internationally leading or advanced scientific research achievements, with significant advantages among domestic peers. Many research results have reached the leading level in China.
The school continuously strengthens international cooperation and communication, establishing the first domestic Optical Research and Education International Joint Research Center, actively carrying out joint training of postgraduates and overseas students, signing joint training agreements with universities such as Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany, University of the West of Scotland in the UK, and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University in Russia, and sending outstanding graduate students for international exchanges, expanding social influence. In 2022, it was approved for the National Scholarship Council's Innovative Talents International Cooperation and Training Program, jointly with Friedrich Schiller University Jena, University of Utsunomiya in Japan, and University of the West of Scotland in the UK, committed to cultivating innovative top-notch talents with international cutting-edge knowledge in optical manufacturing and optoelectronic detection.
